讲座摘要:

This talk presents findings from two ongoing research projects that examine how workaholism, a seemingly virtuous dedication to work, can paradoxically foster unethical or counterproductive behaviours in the workplace. The first paper investigates how leader workaholism shapes employees’ appraisals of stress and ultimately promotes or inhibits time theft behaviours, depending on whether such behaviours are perceived as challenges or hindrances. The second paper explores how coworkers respond to a peer’s workaholism, showing that proself attributions of workaholic behavior leads to increased performance pressure, which in turn drives both greater work effort and interpersonal badmouthing. These studies, grounded in social information processing, attribution, and stress appraisal theories, offer a nuanced perspective on the unintended consequences of workaholism within organizations.
